Elm Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. A graveside service with full military honors will follow his funeral service at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6142 Lake Brandt Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.
John was born on February 20, 1948, to the late Robert and Carrie Bledsoe. He grew up in Fleetwood, NC, and graduated from Beaver Creek High School. After moving to Greensboro, John attended Kings College, where he met many lifelong friends, one of whom invited him to Madison, NC for the weekend. There, John met Gail Holt, the love of his life. They quickly fell in love, and just four months later, they married on Friday, October 13th—a date that was of no concern to them, as they knew they were meant to be together.
In December 1968, John was drafted into the military and sent to Vietnam. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his bravery. After returning home in December 1969, John finally met his 4-month-old daughter, Heidi, for the first time. John, Gail, and Heidi then moved to Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC, where he completed his military service.
Following his military duties, the family returned to Greensboro, NC, where they welcomed a son, Chad. John then dedicated 34 years of his life to working for the United States Postal Service. Over the years, he worked his way up from mailman to supervising 97 post offices in and around Greensboro before retiring.
Throughout his life, John’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Brandon. He had a gift for making people laugh and never met a stranger. His infectious sense of humor and positive spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will be remembered for his warmth, his constant smile, and the genuine kindness he shared with all.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, RH, Thomas, Jack, and Billy Bledsoe; and his sisters, Sue Goodman, Ina Clark, and Bobby Dean Muse.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Gail; his daughter, Heidi; his son, Chad and wife Kim; and his cherished grandson, Brandon Bledsoe. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Bledsoe (Barbara), and his sister, Martha Jane, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the ICU doctors and nurses of Moses Cone Hospital. Their compassionate care and support brought comfort and peace during a difficult time.
