

Judson Jones Morgan, JR. (Jay), 87, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at River Landing in Colfax, NC. Jay was born on October 13, 1927 in Brown Summit, NC, the son on Judson Jones Morgan, Sr. and Leathia Heath Morgan. He attended Greensboro High School and following his graduation served his country in the US Navy. After his military service he began his professional career with Container Corporation of America. He then worked as a salesman with Lynchburg Engraving and then moved his employment to Dixie Graphics in Nashville, TN until his retirement. He was a former member of Florida Street Baptist where he served as Deacon and later moved his membership to Southside Baptist Church.
Jay was a gifted craftsman and woodworker. He enjoyed spending his spare time in his shop repairing and creating beautiful pieces out of wood. He was known and admired for his eighteenth century reproductions. His greatest joy was seeing his creations enjoyed by so many over the years.
Jay married the love of his life in 1946, Frances “Polly” Loflin Morgan and they had 54 years together until her death in 2000. For the last 18 months of Polly’s life, Jay devoted every minute to her care as she struggled with cancer. Jay is survived by his loving daughter, Susan Avis Morgan Moorefield and husband Perry of Jamestown, NC; grandchildren, Lindsey Moorefield Howard and husband J.D. and Brandon Judson Moorefield and wife Megan, all of Raleigh, NC; great grandchildren, Morgan Baylor Howard, Haywood Douglas Howard and William Judson Moorefield. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche O’Ferrell, Lucille Guyer and Gertrude Still. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the administrative, nursing, and support staff of River Landing at Sandy Ridge and to Homewatch Caregivers for the love and care they all extended to Jay. In addition, they would also like to express their appreciation to numerous health care specialists who attended to Jay, especially Dr. Peter Ennever and his staff.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
