She was preceded in death by her parents, Edison and Ruth Cooley, and her sister, Sandra Cooley. She is survived by her husband, Michael Stanley; her sons, Michael (Mary) Stanley and Joshua (Allison) Stanley; her granddaughter, Natalie Stanley; her sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Kendrick; and two generations of nieces and nephews.
Kay was born on March 28, 1960 in Greensboro. She worked for over a decade at Captain D’s, for several years at United Guaranty, and most recently, Country Kitchen in Greensboro.
Kay was a loving wife of 36 years, a proud mother of two sons, and a doting grandmother. She loved spending time at home with family. She was a talented cook and thoughtful hostess, who took pride in her home. She loved decorating and was an avid collector of angel figurines. She enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors, and she loved taking care of her labs, Coca, Chance, and Harley.
Kay was beloved for her honesty and humor. Known to respond to most comments with a chuckle and her favorite phrase, “Oh my day,” Kay inspired laughter and a lack of pretense.
Kay was deeply loved by her family, and she will be missed by many. A celebration of life took place at her sister’s home with close friends and family.
Kay was a breast cancer survivor of 20 years, and her memory may be honored by donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at ww5.komen.org.
