Martha was born on July 4, 1927 in Walkertown, NC to James Grover and Lillian Shore Morris. In 1947, she was married to Charles Lester Duncan. Her family was her pride and joy and she devoted herself to her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a young mother, she was an active volunteer in her community, church and local schools and served as secretary for Hamilton Lakes Pool. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering at Women’s Hospital of Greensboro and the Floral Committee at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Martha used her creativity and artistic ability in her own floral design business, Marjon Designs and also worked as a sales associate and design consultant in the Pace Stone showroom in High Point, NC. In addition to her family and volunteer work, Martha’s many close friends were a source of great joy and companionship.
She is survived by one son, James Lester Duncan and wife Janet Barringer Duncan of Raleigh; two daughters, Melinda Duncan Calvin and husband William Walker Calvin of Greensboro and Jenny Duncan Routh and husband, David Sheldon Routh of Chapel Hill; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Routh Jalazo of Winston-Salem; Maggie Calvin Hawes, Rachel Calvin Engstrom, and Sarah Calvin Tucker of Greensboro, Anna Stockard Routh of Dallas, TX, Sallie Shore Routh of Chapel Hill, and Zachary James Duncan of Raleigh; two great granddaughters, Julianna and Madelyn Engstrom of Greensboro and three siblings, Betty Morris Huff and Carolyn Ann Morris of Winston-Salem, and Roger Wayne Morris of Pfafftown.
