Mary Ann Marik

Mary Ann was a graduate of Vandergrift High School where she was active in the Drill Team, Student Council, the school newspaper and many more.

Moving to Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Ann would begin her career in communications as a telephone operator with Ohio Bell and transitioning into management as the company grew.

It is in Cleveland, where she met her husband, George. As George’s career moved them to various states and finally to North Carolina, she “retired” after 26 years and became active in bowling leagues, the Newcomers Club and various art classes such as tole painting, knitting, needlepoint, basket weaving and sewing. She was also quite the chef hosting many dinner parties. Some of the family favorite dishes were chicken paprikash, stuffed cabbage and meatloaf.

Mary Ann and George were married 55 years until his passing in 2019. In those 55 years they made many friends, traveled state-side and abroad and were a vital part of the family. Their house was always open to visitors. She even had a guest book in the guest bedroom for everyone to sign in.

She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and aunt always offering good advice, funny jokes and a helping hand. She was generous to all….and kind to her 22 cats and 2 dogs….not all at the same time.

She is survived by her sisters, Paulette Barnes and Cathy Verlinger; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her siblings Clayton Dydo, Sophia Collins and Joseph Dydo.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mary Ann Marik will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel officiated by Father Casey Coleman. The family will receive friends following the service.

In light of Mary Ann’s love of animals, the family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers, to “The Carmella Fund” to help animals in need of care with no way to pay. A check can be made out to “Sedgefield Animal Hospital” with a notation for “The Carmella Fund in memory of Mary Ann Marik” and sent to Sedgefield Animal Hospital, 4740 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro NC 27407.
