Fran (is what we all called her) graduated from East Union High School in Marshville in 1965. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. She began her career as a social worker with Community Action of Monroe, NC shortly after graduation. She continued to work as a child protective social worker for Forsyth, Stokes, and Guilford counties until she retired in 2010.
Fran made outfits and window treatments for her home and others. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she designed and produced numerous masks for friends and distributed many by mail to family members. After retirement Fran developed a passion for canning (ask Olin!) Every year, Olin requested sauerkraut, and she made it for him, despite the house smelling like rotten cabbage for several weeks! She also made various jams and jellies and distributed these to family.
Fran is preceded in death by Delbert (Oleatha) Marsh, Bobbie Jean Chambers, Kelyn Huntley, Ruthenia Marsh, Bonnie Doster, Augustine Tolbert, and Cynthia Marsh. She is survived by Olin (Betty) Marsh, Charles (Patricia) Marsh, Teresa (Warren) Richardson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
