Mrs. Mary Lucille Upchurch

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Committal services will be private.

Lucille was born April 14, 1921 in Middlesboro, KY to J. D. Barney and Fathie Orr Barney. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Church where she served as communion steward. She worked for Thalhimer’s and retired from Hecht’s Department Store. She loved people and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Lucille was loved by many at work, church and in her community. She will be remembered as an exceptional person by her loving, caring and gentle spirit.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Clinton Upchurch; four brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Young and husband, Dr. Pinkney Young, grandchildren; William Vance Kester, III and wife, Paige, Michael Todd Kester , Jane King Kester, Dr. Garret Pinkney Young and wife, Maureen, Clay Hutchinson Young and wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren; Olivia Jane Kester, Michael Todd Kester, Matthew Grayson Kester, Avery Blake Young, Garret Pinkney Young, Jr., Clay Hutchinson Young, Jr., Boyce Bowles Young, Elizabeth Whitehurst Young, Brandon Chase Cargal, Dylan Alexander Cargal and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pisgah Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Rd., Greensboro, NC 27455 or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
