Merle Fisher Ellis

Susan Merle Ellis, 84, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Sunday March 2, 2025. She was born August 6, 1940 in Madison County, North Carolina the daughter of Clyde Carson and Idus Capps Fisher.

Merle graduated from Marshall High School. She was a member of Rolling Roads Baptist Church for over 50 years. She worked with Bank of America for almost 40 years. Most important to her was her family, especially the grandchildren. Active in her church, she was a longtime BSF member, especially children’s programs. Merle taught Sunday School, Children’s Church, the Nursery, VBS, Acteens, G.A’s and rocked many babies.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-laws, Robert Moore and Charlie Downs.

Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Sokolosky (Mitch); her son, Jeff Ellis (Audra); grandchildren, Jesse Ellis (Jessica Turner), Tommy Sokolosky, Ashley Ellis, Stephen Sokolosky (Addyson), James Ellis; Great Grandchild, Paisley Ellis; sisters; her twin Pearl Moore, Joyce Downs, Shirley Thomas (Larry), Pat Gilliam (Brian); her brother, Rex Fisher (Wanda) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 8, 2025 at the Rolling Roads Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend James Jordan. The family will receive friends Friday evening March 7, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel 6000 West Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27407.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday March 9, 2025 at the Tillery Cemetery in Marshall, NC.
