Mickey Leon Lawson

Mickey L. and Brenda Vaughan Lawson died on Friday from injuries sustained in a tragic auto accident after they had celebrated Brenda’s birthday with dinner. Mickey was born on July 4, 1943 in Pensacola, FL, the son of Mina Lee and Ruby Pearl Lawson. Brenda was born on July 22, 1945 in Scoland Neck, NC, the daughter of Stanley Ellis and Margaret Burnette Vaughan.

Mickey’s working career was involved with civil engineering. He loved working in his garden, cooking, was an avid reader, was 32nd degree Free Mason and had an appreciation for the simple things in life. Brenda taught art and photography for 30 years in the Guilford County School System until her retirement, and her love for teaching and children drew her back to substitute teach. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She had a love of crafts and photography and had an infectious smile and laugh that was contagious.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Timothy Lawson. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish their memory are the children, Erik C. Lawson of Apex, NC, Heather L. Best and husband Dan of Warsaw, NC, Karen L. Mobley and husband Chris of Whittier, NC, Aidan Lawson of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Nicholas Hardison, Travis Lawson, Cole Lawson, Brenna Best, Porter Best, Damian Mobley, Dustin Mobley, Ian Mobley, Ava Mobley; Mickey’s brother, Terry Lawson and wife Sherry of Greensboro, NC and sister, Janice Lawson of Greensboro, NC and sister-in-law, Sara Lawson of Augusta, GA and Brenda’s brother, Ellis Burnette and wife Helen of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of their lives will be held on Friday, July 29, 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 310 South Tremont Drive, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon till the service time at the church on Friday.
