A celebration of Obera’s life will be held at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, 1415 Neelley Road, on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. She was a member there and the secretary of her Sunday School. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Obera was born in Randolph County to the late Alson and Sylvina Johnson Thomas. She loved school and graduated from Sumner High School and received a basketball Scholarship to King’s Business College in Charlotte.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a homemaker, wonderful seamstress, spending many hours at her sewing machine. Obera worked for the city of Greensboro with the Welcome Wagon and eleven years with the Greensboro City Schools in special education.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fentress was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lewis Fentress; son, Donald Lewis Fentress of Myrtle Beach, S.C., numerous brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fentress Church and husband, Keith; son, Ken Fentress, both of Greensboro; granddaughters, Kelly Fentress of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ashley Church Brauze and husband, Chad of Ladera Ranch, California, Abbey Church Massengill and husband, Brandon of Zebulon, N.C., Jody Church Barefoot and husband, Jonathan of Raleigh, N.C., Brennen Fentress of Seattle, Washington, Brooke Fentress of Chapel Hill, N.C.; great granddaughters, Maddie Fentress, Kate Obera Brauze, Emma Elizabeth Barefoot and Amelia Grace Massengill. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, 1415 Neelley Road, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4615 Dundas Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.
