

Born in Guilford County on October 4, 1940, she was the daughter of Mildred and William Ralph Welker. She graduated in 1959 from Greensboro Senior High School. Peggy lived in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Throughout her working life, Peggy served as an executive secretary for Vanguard Cellular Systems in Greensboro. Peggy’s life was enriched by her love for reading, traveling the world, and spending time with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed researching about new travel adventures. Some of her favorite trips were international, Greece, Italy, Japan, France, and Turkey.
A devoted member of her community, Peggy was a Lifetime member of Peace United Church of Christ. She was also committed to service through Beta Sigma Phi, the non-collegiate sorority in which she was an Order of the Rose Recipient, a five-time recipient of the Woman of the Year Award for Service and held all chapter offices over 25 years of membership. Her compassion extended to some of the most difficult moments others faced, as she served 11 years as an advocate for domestic abuse victims through Turning Point, a United Way agency.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Peace United Church of Christ or, United Way of Greater Greensboro.
