Browns Summit - Richard Clinton Remmey, III, 70, of Browns Summit, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2018. He was born in Greensboro, the son of the late Richard C. Remmey, Jr. and Kathryn Thompson Remmey.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, his mother having died just weeks before him on June 18, 2018. He is survived by his son Ryan Thompson Remmey; his sister, Gayle Faucette (Dick); nephew George “Buz” C. Knox (Jenny), niece Kathryn Blakemore (John), special great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends, many from his childhood.
Rick enjoyed a fun-filled childhood with days spent riding flexies with his cousin, and climbing trees. He made lifelong friends while playing in the creek with his neighbors. He attended Irving Park and Aycock Schools and graduated in 1966 from Walter Hines Page Senior High School. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.
He attended N.C. State University and was always an avid and loyal Wolfpack fan. After enlisting in the Army in 1968, Rick finished in the top one third of his company. He served in Vietnam in 1969 where he was the Command R & R NCO in Camrahn Bay.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1971, and the birth of his son, Rick joined the family business, Remco Supply Company in 1974. There he poured his energy and his heart into the company until his untimely death. Rick was a fair and loyal employer and cared deeply for his Remco family. He greatly appreciated his employees and all they do to help Remco be successful. Many have been faithful employees now for over 20 years.
Family was key in Rick’s life. He was a devoted and loving son who always looked forward to calling his mother every day at 6:45 p.m. If he was on the phone with someone he would say, “Gotta call Mom, I’ll call you back”. He loved time spent with his family, particularly trips to Ocean Isle Beach in May and October each year. He loved looking for and finding olive shells, reading books on the back porch and watching amazing sunsets in the evening with family by his side. Rick also loved Christmas mornings when everyone gathered at his mother’s for country ham biscuits and opening gifts around her tree. He enjoyed sharing generously with his family and spoiled everyone with his unselfish gifts.
Rick was a hard worker and successful businessman. He had a big heart for others and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his success; his generosity benefited many individuals, and organizations. He was a humble man who never wanted any attention or recognition for himself. He was always a caring, loyal supporter, and faithful friend.
At the end of a day, Rick enjoyed retreating to his country home. He enjoyed time on his deck, watching the sun set over the pond, working word puzzles and listening to his oldies/beach music. He was an amazing man who lived simply, loved deeply and will be missed by all, whose lives have been forever blessed by him.
A private inurnment service for family was held in July. A private Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018.
