Ruth Ann R. Horner, 86, passed away on January 28, 2024. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of the late Dorothy Parker Rosenberger Rohovit and Leon Isaac Rohovit. She attended the public schools of Kansas City and graduated from Central Missouri State University with a BS degree in Home Economics.
Her husband, Rev. Dr. Fred R. Horner, whom she met in junior high school, survives her, along with their children Kevin (Nancy) Horner; Doug (Cynthia) Horner; Jen (Derek) Thomas; and Kristin Horner. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Cameron Horner, William Horner, Nicole Horner, Dimes Horner, Abbey Thomas, and Sarah Thomas; and her sister-in-law Ginny (Bob) Monica and their children Kris, Peter, and David Monica.
She actively supported her husband’s ministries throughout their careers and taught home economics in Southern Indiana; Louisville, KY; Charlotte, NC; and Jamestown, NC. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church Greensboro and an elder of the session.
Ruth Ann thrived being with others, volunteering with groups such as Circle of Friends at FPC and Ten Thousand Villages. Over the years she generated many merry moments with her children and grandchildren at vacation sites at the beach or in the mountains.
Ruth Ann thoroughly enjoyed living at River Landing at Sandy Ridge for eleven-plus years. She received great joy from participating in events such as the chorus and fashion shows and cheering during the local retirement communities “Olympics.” Ruth Ann looked forward to being with the friends in water aerobics, chair volleyball and exercise classes. She valued staff members all over the campus at River Landing. Her family is grateful for the care and support of the Winged Foot rehabilitation staff.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church (and live streamed) with a visitation following in the Virginia Gilmer Room.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Pastoral Care Fund, 617 N Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401, or River Landing at Sandy Ridge Resident Assistance Fund.
