Born in Burlington, she was the daughter of the late George Dawson and Margaret Miller Huskey Lamberth. Sara was graduated from the Burlington High School and from Burlington Business College. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack, by her three sisters, Edna(Bird), Margaret (Kennedy), and Adelaide (Dicks), and by her son, Joseph B. Dunn, Jr.
Sarah was a long time member of the Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, where she was a troop leader in Girl Scouts, active in the Womens’ circle at the church, and in the Womens’ support group for the VFD of the community. After moving to Greensboro in 1972, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, and served in the Greensboro Garden Club and in Meals-on-Wheels.
She is survived by her brother- and sister-in law Lewis and Eleanor Dunn of Burgaw, NC; by her sister-in-law, Phoebe Dunn of Charlotte, NC; by her daughter-in-law, Melanie Bassett Dunn; and by her many nephews and nieces of both the Dunn and Lamberth families, many of whom fondly remember their summer visits to “work” with Aunt Sara and Uncle Joe on their farm near Charlotte.
The family expresses its appreciation to the care-giving staffs of Blumenthal and of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, and to Dr. Stephen South for the excellent care provided to her during her last years and especially to Anne, Melanie, and Marianne for their weekly visits and support.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, Charlotte, NC 28216-8654; The 1st Presbyterian Church, 617 N.
