

Shirley was born on February 18, 1935 in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of Charles and Hattie Stockard. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High in 1953. In March 1957, she married the love of her life, Dr. Coleman Brantley. He preceded her in death much too soon in 1984.Shirley was a homemaker, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and thoughtful friend.
She enjoyed cooking, decorating, gardening, shopping, and her volunteer work at Wesley Long Hospital and First Presbyterian Church. She was known for expressing kindness and thoughtfulness to neighbors and friends by showing up at their doorstep from time to time with a homemade treat from her kitchen. She was a true Southern lady, beautiful and elegant, and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Surviving are her children Dana Judy and husband Chris, and Keri Brantley; grandchildren Michael Judy, Kathryn Brown and husband Ryan, Evan Judy, and Will Judy.
The family would like to thank all the loving caregivers at Val's Family Care Home in Raleigh who provided exceptional care for Shirley during her illness.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016, at First Presbyterian Chapel located on North Elm Street in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Transitions Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
