A sweet and gentle soul with a big heart departed this world early Tuesday, September 11, 2018. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, Susan Beth Dawson (nee Neiditz) is survived by and is the beloved wife of Carlisle “Chip” Dawson, daughter of Fredel and Marvin Neiditz, brothers Stephen and David Neiditz. Also, surviving her are many nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-law David and “Cricket” Blaha and brother-in-law Tom Dawson. A private service was held on September 13, 2018 at Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery.
While Susan was born in Florida, her family moved to Greensboro when she was young. Susan graduated from Grimsley High School, class of 1974 where she was a trombone player in the school’s marching band. Susan also graduated from UNCG 1978 (BA Science Clothing and Fashion) and GTCC 1994 (AD Accounting). She participated regularly in sewing costumes for the annual production of the Wizard of Oz by the Community Theater of Greensboro.
Susan’s great passion was for her dogs and dog sports which she actively participated for over 20 years. Susan and her canines participated in Obedience Training, Go to Ground, Lure Coursing and Agility, but especially Flyball. When Greensboro Parks and Recreation announced a plan to create the first dog park in the city, Susan was part of the initial Steering Committee for the Stephen M. Hussey Bark Park located in Greensboro’s Country Park. Her great love of life was stronger than any of the physical challenges she experienced. Her strong spirit and love of her dogs kept her participating in Flyball until early this year. Her dogs achieved many Flyball awards and she was voted MVP. Flyball colleagues dearly loved Susan especially across North and South Carolina and Virginia. All were lucky to have called her their friend.
An informal gathering of friends and family is planned on Thursday, September 20 from 6:30-8PM at Advantage Funeral Services, 1900 Vanstory St, Greensboro, NC. All who remember Susan are welcome to attend and share their stories of Susan with all in attendance. Flyball team colors and outlandish socks are encouraged – two of Susan’s favorite fashion statements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to an animal rescue group, the American Lung Association, The American Cancer Society, FSH Society or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
