“Susie” was born and raised in Lenoir, North Carolina as the youngest child of five.
She was Preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Maynard Hairfield; father, Dr. Theodore Vincent Hairfield Sr.; and brother, Theodore Vincent Hairfield Jr.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sisters: Georgianne Mullis of Cary, Jacqueline Hairfield of Rougemont, and Peggy Tesh of Greensboro. Other family include 9 nieces and nephews and, of course, her three feline “kids,” Putt Putt, Romeo, and Brother.
Susan’s favorite times were spent at her beach house in Oak Island, annual trips to The Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga., many exciting and mischievous “sister trips,” and LOTS of golf whenever she could. She cherished golf and dinners with her dear friends in Wilson. All of her happy times included a love for seafood.
Susan attended Lenoir High School and obtained her undergraduate degree from UNCG. She went on to complete two Masters Degrees, one from UNC-G and one from Wake Forest, her Father’s alma mater.
Susan was very proud of her work in banking security, and in her early career, she received national recognition for her contributions that helped pave the way for the development of the smart card. Susan enjoyed a long-time career with BBT bank before retiring in February of 2020.
The sisters would like to thank all of Susan’s friends and neighbors who shared her fun times and supported her. Special thanks to Brenda, Sue, Hillary, Dee, and Susan’s good buddy Earl Jones.
Donations can be made in her memory to Purrfect Hearts Cat Rescue in Wilson NC or a charity of your choice.
