

Thelma Phillips Smith, 79, a resident of Greensboro died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Wesley Long Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born July 18, 1931 in Richland Co., SC, a daughter of Admiral Dewey Phillips and Mattie Chalflinch. She was retired from Custom Industries where she worked in the purchasing department. She attended Sumner Baptist Church in Greensboro and West Columbia First Church of God in SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Smith; her parents and four brothers, Admiral Dewey Phillips, Jr., Wyman, Franklin and Glenn “PeeWee” Phillips.
Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Clark and husband Donnie, Linda Parish and husband Rodney of Greensboro; three sisters, Martha Hendrix and husband Buddy, Mary Spries and husband Carlie and Ann Smith and husband Paul all of SC; four brothers, Cecil Phillips, A.D. Phillips and wife Oney, Fred Phillips and wife Ann, Bobby Phillips and wife Patsy all of SC; three grandchildren, Shelly Clemons and husband Scott, Butch Bryant and wife Renee’, Brandy Tarrant and seven great grandchildren, Austin, Trevor, Taylor, Hayven, Madison, Ransom and Adeline.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407 conducted by Reverend Jeff Case and Reverend Jeff Mabe. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
