Wayne M. Cupid was born at San-Fernando, General Hospital, Trinidad & Tobago. He is predeceased by both of his parents. His mom in 2003 and his father in 2005. He and I were raised by our grandmother, Veronica Fraser or May May as she was lovingly called, she also went to be with the Lord.
Wayne was a brilliant and kind-hearted individual, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. Wayne demonstrated exceptional intelligence and academic excellence from a young age. He excelled in math and science, and his remarkable memory allowed him to ace tests without studying which aggravated me.
Wayne's journey took him from Fyzabad Intermediate School in Trinidad to Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York, where he graduated with high honors. He served in the US Army's 67 Signal Battalion, receiving an honorable discharge in 1980.
Wayne's quick wit, humor, and gift for gab often got him into a lot of trouble, which often times required me to rescue him from a "beat down" but it also made him the comedian of the family. His kind heart and generosity inspired him to help those in need, often going out of his way to assist others.
After 9/11 Wayne decided to give his life to Christ, he showed up at my church, Calvary Tabernacle, one Sunday morning and was baptized. After experiencing some set-backs while living in Brooklyn, he was invited to move to North Carolina by a couple, Mr. Victor & Gemma Cadogan. They treated Wayne as their son. They looked out and cared from each other. Although, he faced challenges, including a stroke during the height of Covid-19, his resilience and faith kept him going.
Wayne's desire to visit Trinidad again was unfortunately left unfulfilled, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. We will deeply miss him, but we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with the Lord.
Rest well, dear brother, your memory will be cherished forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life service for Wayne will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N Elm St, Greensboro, North Carolina 27401 in the Lineberry Center.
