

Funeral services were scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Groometown Baptist Church in Greensboro with military honors, Unfortunately, the family elected to cancel the services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Bentley was entombed at 10:00 am on Monday, February 8, 2021 in the mausoleum and Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensboro.
He was born October 29, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late Elijah Martin and Carrie Belle Bentley. He married Nancy A. Stout on March 14, 1952.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Robinson, Dora Lee Hanson and Floye Estelle Bentley; brothers, James Edward Bentley and Robert Granville Bentley; a son, Rodney Joe Bentley; and a granddaughter, Kelly Ann Herbin.
Surviving is his wife of almost 69 years, Nancy S. Bentley; daughter, Patricia B. Woods (Perry); sons, William E. Bentley Jr. (Kaye) and Robert Dale “Sonny” Bentley of the home; brother, Carroll M. Bentley; grandchildren, Kimberly Neal (Jason), Michael Bentley (Christy), Casey Herbin (Naomi), Craig Bentley, Jennifer Bentley; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great great- granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Army in the early 50's. He has been a cornerstone of Groometown Baptist Church for 32 years, actually helping to build it. He served in every capacity imaginable for the church as well as Deacon and Church Council.
He, along with his wife Nancy, served as BOCCE Coaches for Greensboro Special Olympics for 19 years.
