William Clayton Connor, 59, of Jamestown—loving husband and father, avid hiker and runner, and true North Carolinian—died while running on April 28, 2014. Born in Washington, DC on June 6, 1954, Bill grew up in Durham, NC. He graduated from Lynchburg College Magnum Cum Laude in 1976, and received his JD Cum Laude from Washington and Lee Law School in 1979. After practicing law in Bluefield, WV, and Tulsa, OK, Bill returned to his beloved North Carolina in 1989. For the past 25 years, Bill has practiced commercial law at the Greensboro firm of Tuggle Duggins.
Bill is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Catherine Meier Connor, and his beloved children: Sarah Catherine Connor of Jamestown, NC, and Karen Elizabeth Connor McGugan and William Daniel McGugan of Cambridge, MA. He was a devoted son to his parents, Martha and Robert Tresnak of Pittsboro, NC, and son-in-law to Mary Kay Meier of Greensboro, NC. He was a wonderful brother to Richard Connor of New Bedford, MA and Lynn and Paul Sykes of Lenexa, KS. At Tuggle Duggins, he was a respected colleague and valued friend. He leaves behind many who love him.
While he was a dedicated attorney, Bill lived first and foremost for his family. He was a kind, gentle, quiet man with a healthy sense of humor. For Bill, a perfect day involved hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains with his family, running, or listening to Bluegrass. He also enjoyed attempting to fly fish.
Although his death was unexpected, his family is comforted by the knowledge that he loved them more than anything.
Services will be held at 2:30 on Sunday, May 4, at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 N. Holden Road, Greensboro. The family is being assisted by Hanes Lineberry Funeral Services, 515 N. Elm Street.
