

A graveside service will be conducted at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 3 pm. Afterwards, the family will receive friends at the residence.
Bill was born June 12, 1920 in Carrollton, Georgia to William Ellis North and Martha Susan Murrah. He attended Roopville High School, and West Georgia College.
From 1942 until 1945 Bill served in the Army Air Corps 27th Fighter Group, the first tactical air force to operate in Germany. The 27th Group was awarded the Four Oak Leaf Cluster Award and the Distinguished Unit Badge. It was the first unit in the European Theatre to be honored five times with the Presidential Citation. After the war, he was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph Company, retiring in 1957. In 1959, he and his wife Mae Belle Barrow North founded North Decorating Studios, Inc. In addition to their interior design business, in 1962, Bill reconstructed and restored an 18th century log house which has been used as an antique shop and is now a noted landmark.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mae Belle B. North. He is survived by his daughters, Rebekah Tuttle and husband, Norman; Elizabeth N. Kutz and husband, Bill; and son William L. North, Jr. and wife Ann; four grandchildren, Griffin North, Melissa Tuttle, Kathryn McMahon, Priscilla Olinick; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ellie Clare McMahon, William and Weston Olinick and Robyn Tuttle. Also surviving is his brother Jesse E. North of Jacksonville, Florida and niece Linda Tawfik.
