

William Malphus Woodall, of Greensboro, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Hospice of the Piedmont, in High Point, NC at the age of 88 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Known to his many friends and his family as Bill or Woody, he was born in Wake County, NC on January 9, 1926, one of seven children of David B. and Teresa Sears Woodall. Bill served his country for six years in the U.S. Navy, joining at the age of 14 and seeing service on the Franklin D Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier, in the Mediterranean arena. He was a graduate of Guilford College and a career employee of Arnold Concrete and Stone Company in Colfax, NC (later purchased by Carolina Steel Corporation). He was also an owner, along with his wife Jacqueline (Jackie), of a well-known commercial greenhouse in the Greensboro area named “Something Different “; subsequently “The Big Greenhouse”. Bill was very active throughout his life; loving the out of doors, especially golfing, fishing, his garden and frequent business travels to Florida and Mexico.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Woodall of New York, New York, and Jonathan Sears Woodall and his wife Jane of Holly Springs, NC, his sister Shirley Byers and her husband Gene, his sister-in-law Audrey Woodall, his stepsons Gary Engels and his wife Gail, and Ronnie Crawford, and his stepdaughter Cheryl Engels, along with nieces, nephews and grand- and great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Jackie, his brothers James, Ray, and Bruce and his sisters, Mary and Ruth.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. If anyone should wish to do so, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill be made to the Hospice Home at Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
The family especially wishes to thank LaToya Battle and Carol Holden, as well as the entire staff at Hospice Home, for their companionship, loving care and comfort they provided to Bill later in his life and especially his final days.
