Arthur, 
I don't know what to say; you were only with us for such a very short moment in time. During that moment you brought us love, laughter, tears of joy and happiness; you left an everlasting impression on us. You allowed us to become mom and dad, mamaw and papaw, aunts...uncles...cousins...you impacted us for a lifetime. From the moment I met you in the hospital you "had me" with your sweet face, it seemed you were all arms and legs, the sight and sound of you melted my heart. I watched your parents get married, was so excited when they told us you were coming, and shared the thrill of your birth with them.....they are so proud of you. I was able to watch your mom and dad became parents and figure out how to feed and burp you...how to diaper you...how to quiet you when you were unhappy. I watched two amazing people figure out how to become amazing parents. You made us realize to never take anything for granted and to appreciate and enjoy every moment we are given. Your life was such a gift, then along comes this incredible sadness; the sadness will not define you though...the memories and the happiness will. Even though the grief and sorrow of losing you will never go away time will allow it to diminish. The sorrow will be replaced by the joy that memories of holding you, watching you smile, smelling your little head, and loving you bring. We will talk of how you had your dad's auburn hair, your mom's feet, and how wonderful it felt just to hold you. So know Arthur that I will miss you every day but my memories will never fade and will forever be held within my heart.

Arthur.  My sweet, sweet, Arthur. What joy you brought to me.
I remember the first time we met.  You were so small and fragile but, you brought enormous happiness into all our lives.
I will remember how you would look at me when I changed your diaper and how you would smile when I kissed your little toes and your tummy.
I will remember playing peek-a-boo with you and the smiles you gave to me.
I will remember giving you your bottle and how warm and wonderful you felt nestled in my arms, falling to sleep, a peaceful sleep only a baby could have.
My little Arthur, how you loved your bath, becoming so relaxed.  Your Mom telling me to go get a warm towel to dry you and a warm blanket to wrap you in.  Then, you would take your bottle and fall to sleep.  What a joyful memory.
I also will remember driving to the hospital on that awful day.  But, on the way Grandpa and I saw the most beautiful sign from God. It was a double rainbow.  One rainbow bigger and brighter, the other small with fragile colors but, both touching the ground and reaching for the sky together.  I knew at that moment that God had taken you to Heaven and that you would be with angels.
I will always remember my beautiful Arthur.
Now, every morning, I start my day kissing your picture and saying "Good morning, Arthur."  So much joy you brought to me.
I will always remember you my sweet, sweet, grandson Arthur.  Beautiful boy, you will always be in my heart.  My memories will help me when I miss you most.

     I'm sure you know that I will carry Arthur with me forever...memories of our brief time together along with a crystal clear picture of the happiness he brought to you guys and everyone around him. I choose not to dwell on what could have been, instead I'll enjoy thoughts of time spent together. The pride I feel for your son will never diminish nor will the memories ever fade. Arthur will always be part of our family who brings incredible joy, pride, and strength...for that I am forever grateful.

Come on Arthur, let's go finish your bottle on the front porch.  It's warm but, the breeze is nice, we can look at the pond and hear it's fountain.  Lean back in my arms and watch the sky, watch my eyes, listen to the beat of my heart.  Did you hear that Arthur!  It's a frog!  Do you know what the frog says Arthur?  The frog says "gunk-gunk...,gunk-gunk". Yes, it does.  Do you feel the breeze across you face?  It smells like summer; cut grass, stale leaves, and memories. Yes, it does.  Close your eyes and feel the breeze, hear the frog.  The fountain, it whispers "shhhhhh...., my heartbeat blares "I Love You". "Gunk-gunk, gunk-gunk...

Sarah and Jesse,
Our love and thoughts are with the both of you at this traumatic time. A beautiful rainbow came into your lives but had to leave so soon .... never to be forgotten.
