
Eva Dorcas Koors, 83, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at her home in Charleston, South Carolina. Eva was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Peter and Henrietta Mae Tavener.
In 1957, at the age of 26, she took the bold step of moving to “The States” and settled in Phoenix, becoming a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1964.
She married William Bernard Koors in September of 1960. She worked for Sperry Flight Systems (now Honeywell) for 32 years before retiring as a Methods Engineering Aide in 1989. After the death of her husband Bill in 2002, Eva moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to live with her daughter, Colleen’s, family, eventually moving with them to Charleston in 2008.
She was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Phoenix for many years. She was a past member of Nativity Catholic Church in Charleston and was a parishioner at St. Patrick Church in Charleston at the time of her death. She greatly enjoyed the companionship of her fellow members of the Nativity Leisure Club and The Friends of St. Theresa.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Karen Koors of Arizona City, Arizona; daughter, Colleen (Andrew) Lamar of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Rob (Marcie) Trantham of Amarillo, Texas, Riann (Michael) Lopez of Casa Grande, Arizona, Christopher (Jenny) Trantham of Scottsdale, Arizona, Eva, Samuel, and William Lamar of Charleston, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Jessica Garcia, Valarie, Stefanie, Joeseph Trantham, Michael Lopez; sister, Hilda Tavener of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; brother, Bruce (Maureen) Tavener of Lakefield, Ontario, Canada; friend, Ellen Kunkle, who generously offered the gift of friendship to a “tired old lady,” dragging Eva out on the town, much to Eva’s enjoyment and benefit; and finally, her beloved cat Willie, who remained reliably at her side, even in death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Koors; step-son, Stephen Koors; sisters, Alice Murray and Blanche Tavener and brother, Bill Tavener.
The Rite of Committal and interment will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at 11:15 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg with Father John Meyer officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, William.
