

Pat was born in Jennings County, Indiana, on August 4, 1928, to Neiland and Emma Tatem, and moved to Decatur County in 1935. Pat graduated from Greensburg High School in 1946. She attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing.
She and Delmar Cox were married in 1947 and farmed in Decatur County until his death in 1968. She later married Dr. Dale Dickson in 1971, and he predeceased her in death in 1993.
She is survived by daughters Carol (Dan) Hancock and Nancy (Gene) Crabill of Greensburg, Indiana. She was blessed by her six grandchildren Amy (Stephen) Stringer, Kevin (Amy) Hancock, Gregory Hancock, Kristin (Chris) Hunteman, Todd (Brittany) Crabill, Erin (Travis) Barclay, and ten great-grandchildren. Other survivors include sister Verna West of Columbus, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Pat was predeceased in death by her parents and four sisters: Mary Hoyt, Frances Howard Lehman, Evelyn Lange, and Ruth Young.
Pat worked as a nurse’s aide at the Decatur County Community Hospital for several years as well as a private duty nurse. She also worked as a nurse in Dr. Dickson’s medical office until retirement in 1976.
She was a lifelong member of Greensburg First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Loyal Builders Sunday School Class. She served in many capacities in the church including Sunday School teacher and Board of Deaconesses. Pat had a passion for missions. She was active in local and state mission work, having served in various capacities including state president of the Indiana Baptist Women and president of the Indiana Baptist Convention. She also participated in mission trips to Haiti and Kenya, Africa.
Pat was active in the community. She worked as a Hospice volunteer and was a member of the Decatur County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held on August 1st from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gilliland Howe Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on August 2nd at 10:30 am at the Greensburg First Baptist Church with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or Our Hospice of Decatur County.
