Sophia Danielle Walsman, beautiful 7 year old daughter of Scott and Luann, sister of Emma Grace, was granted her heavenly angel wings on Thursday, July 2, 2015, following her battle of Anaplastic Ependymoma, a rare brain tumor cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched throughout her brief, but memorable life.
She was born on August 2, 2007 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana. She was blessed to reside in the town of Greensburg. There, she attended Greensburg Elementary School. Her favorite subjects were art, music, math, and reading. Throughout her elementary years, she proudly accepted the most improved girl award, honor roll, and reading awards. She also was a YMCA basketball cheerleader, participated in tennis, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, and Pirateer clinics. Her hobbies included horseback riding, swimming, dancing, and community service projects.
Since her diagnosis in September of 2014, Sophia exuded strength, courage, and bravery. She touched numerous lives throughout the world. Her contagious smile always reminded people of how life should be celebrated. To help support the Walsman family through her illness, Luann’s Hill-Rom family, Scott’s Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) family, Anytime Fitness in Greensburg, Lincoln Street Grill, Sugar Coated Cakery in Shelbyville, YMCA in Greensburg, Children’s HealthCare in Greensburg, and Arby’s in Greensburg provided benefits/donations. In May, Make a Wish Foundation sponsored them with a magical trip to Disney World in Florida. In addition, the Walsman family was a recipient of prayer services, acts of kindness, meals, cards, and donations provided by family, friends, community, churches, and caregivers for which they are eternally grateful.
