She was also preceded in death by her sons John Wesley Simpson II and Jesse Lee Simpson, both of Arcanum; and her former husbands William Burrell Cromes, Eugene Cooper “Pete” Simpson, and Daniel Roudebush.
She is survived by her daughter, Marla Morales (and husband Alex) of Houston, Texas. Shirlene dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She graduated from Kettering College of Medical Arts as a registered nurse and became a certified rehabilitation nurse. She worked in a specialized head trauma unit and also served as a paramedic with Arcanum Rescue. She was a very hard-working woman who took great pride in her career helping others.
She had a lifelong passion for auctions, collecting antiques, garage sales, stamps, coins, arrowheads, rocks, and gems. She loved to haggle, paint, listen to music, attend NASCAR races, host family holidays, and take her family on adventures. Shirlene will be remembered for her strength, her deep faith in Jesus, and her love for her church as a longtime member of Greenville Church of Christ. She also treasured the friends and fellowship at Faith UMC in Arcanum, where she received many encouraging letters. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the quiet comfort she gave to so many.
