At the age of 8, Al had the privilege of hearing a clear presentation of God’s plan of salvation while attending Vacation Bible School and he repented of his sins and received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. At age of 16, Al committed his life to God and was grateful to the Lord for directing him into education and a career in teaching. On August 14, 1960, Al was married to JoAnn Joyce Faul of Harvey, ND.
Al graduated from Immanuel Academy and Reedley College, both in Reedley, CA. He continued his undergraduate education at Tabor College, Hillsboro, KS earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. He continued his postgraduate education at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS where he earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.
Al retired from teaching on May 7, 2005, after 41 years of teaching biology; one year in Indiana, six years in Texas and 34 years at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He especially enjoyed teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology and becoming acquainted with students preparing for careers in nursing, medicine, dentistry and other healthcare professions. After retirement from teaching, he did volunteer work in the SC Room and Technical Services in the Hughes Main Library in Greenville. Also, he held several part-time employment positions; courier for the law firm, Emory & Gaines, driving a truck for Aramark Food Services at BJU, delivery driver for Greenville Flower and Plants and lastly cleaning medical buildings with Newbold Services.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Joyce (Faul) Isaak, and his son, Corporal Garreth Charles Isaak, USMC, and survived by a brother, George Isaak; a sister, Martha (Isaak) Kliewer; daughters, Sharlene (Randy) Cornelius, and Lori (John) Huffman; grandchildren, Caroline (Sean) Feavel, Mary Cornelius, Anna Helen Cornelius , Katrina Cornelius, Angelia Cornelius, Isaak Huffman, Peter Cornelius, Micayla Cornelius, Cari Huffman, Isaiah Cornelius, Joseph Cornelius, Suzanne Cornelius; great-granddaughters, Ava and Maisie Feavel, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Al will take place on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 4:00 PM. The service will be held in the funeral home chapel at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive Greenville, SC 29609.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aviation Radio Missionary Service, P.O. Box 23, Greenville, SC 29602 for the Randy Cornelius family, who are serving the Lord in Carriacou, Grenada.
