Doris Irene Green Bramlett, aged 90, went to be with her heavenly father on August 26, 2024 in Greenville, SC. Born on December 9, 1933 in the historic Bates Home located on Hwy. 14 and built in 1835, she was a true Greenvillian. She was a caring and supportive wife of 52 years to her beloved husband, Joe Douglas Bramlett, and a devoted daughter to the late Walton Green and Maurice Jones Green. She was also preceded by a special grandson, Timothy Joseph Gresham and a very special grandmother, Ethel Smith Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy B. Langley (Barry) and Deborah B. Gresham (Tim); two granddaughters, Angela Johnson (Michael) and Mikki Draz (Haider); three great-grandchildren, Brett Knight, Jr., Leighton Draz and CeCe Draz; and her lifelong friend, June Freeland Smith.
Doris was an inspiration to everyone she met. There was nothing that she could not tackle once given the opportunity. She was a trailblazer and set the bar extremely high for all the young women and men she mentored during her fascinating career. She began her career as a secretary in the home office of Liberty Life Ins. Company. In 1962, she was offered a partnership with Charles Robinson and they established Robinson & Bramlett Ins. Agency; she was only 29 at the time. Doris joined the Greenville Assoc. of Ins. Women (GAIW) in 1958 and served in numerous leadership roles. She was chosen "Insurance Woman of the Year" by the GAIW in 1964, the first to ever receive the award. She also served as President of the National Ins. Women's Assoc., which required her to travel all over the United States.
In 1978, Doris was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Greenville Board of Realtors where she faithfully served for 19 years. During her tenure, she was instrumental in computerizing the Greenville Multiple Listing Service (MLS) which is still operational today.
Doris was a longtime member of Rockvale Baptist Church where she served in various leadership roles such as church Treasurer and Director of Arts & Crafts for Vacation Bible School. While her daughters were young, Doris served as Director of the Junior Girls Auxiliary (GA'S), a position she held for 10 years. She was also very active with the Laurel Elementary School PTA where she held numerous leadership roles including President. At the end of her tenure, she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the SC-PTA for her service to the Laurel Chapter.
While in her 80's, Doris became a very active volunteer for the Greenville Healthcare System where she volunteered at both Hillcrest and Greer Memorial Hospitals and logged over 20,000 hours of service. Once again, she excelled in leadership roles holding several positions on the Hillcrest Auxiliary Board of Directors, the GHS Auxiliary Executive Committee, and serving as President of the South Carolina Assoc. of Hospital Auxiliaries (SCAHA) from 2014-2016. Doris was also involved with Senior Action of Greenville's Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) where she served as President and was named RSVP "Volunteer of the Year" in 2008.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC 29609.
