
Edwin “Ed” William Evans passed away Saturday, April, 27, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Elyse Silver Evans, his son, Jeffrey Allen Evans, stepsons Jeffrey Scott Greenberg (Jennifer), Andrew Ross Greenberg (Kristina), and five grandchildren: Sophie, Charlotte, and Leah Greenberg and Aaron and Evan Greenberg. He is also survived by his brother, Newman Evans (Karen). Ed was predeceased by his parents William Middleton Evans and Lorene Newman Evans. He was also predeceased by his first wife Julia Rigsby Evans.
Ed was born in Pratt City, Alabama. He attended Auburn University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He was a lifelong donor to the School of Engineering. After leaving the Navy, Ed was hired by the Trane Corporation and sent to Greenville in 1965. He was employed for many years by the Trane Corporation at its franchise Boodle Mechanics where he was Sales Manager.
One of Ed’s greatest joys came when he was Shag dancing. He was elected to
The National Beachshaggers Hall of Fame in 2010. His dancing home was was the Carolina Shag Club where he made many friends who became family. His other joy was Clemson Football and basketball. He was a member of IPTAY for 51 years. He loved attending football games where he and his wife tailgated with friends who “adopted “ them. You could always tell where Ed was by his booming laugh. You could hear him across the room. He was friendly, funny, loyal and loved by many. His grandchildren adored him. They called him “Bear”.
Funeral will be private. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Larkin’s Sawmill, 22 Graves Dr. from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
