She was also preceded in death in 2014 by her beloved husband Ernest Carlisle Garrett after 67 years of marriage. Her siblings, Alice McGregor and Bobby Carr also preceded her.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmie (Pat) Carr. Her son Ernest Daniel (Patricia) Garrett as well as their daughters Jennifer and Amy survive. Daughter Jennifer (Jamie) Neal and great grandchildren Mary Griffin Maye, husband Zach, and Zachary Griffin remain along with daughter Amy (Ivor) Dikkers and great grandchildren Sofie and Tessa.
She is also survived by her daughter, Linda Joan Garrett Craig and her husband David Craig Sr. who have been her caregiver for eight years. Jonathan Craig and great grandchildren Brody, Bentley and Emaleigh also survive.
Joan and Ernest were faithful and active members of First Baptist Church of Greenville from the time of their marriage and reared their children in the church. She continued her attendance as long as her health allowed and she always continued her tithe. Joan was proud of her twenty one years as Director of Food Service at First Baptist where she was renowned for her yeast rolls and Southern style green beans. She excelled as a seamstress who made beautiful draperies and clothes, making all the dresses for Linda's wedding.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice for making the smooth transition for her and our family. They were a blessing in a very difficult time. We love our Mom, Nana and friend and we rejoice that she is with Ernest.
A Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Greenville. Matt Rollins from First Baptist Greenville will officiate.
