Born July 15, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, Erik was the only child of Caroline Janniken (Bjornson) Nagel and Herman Andreas Nagel who met en route to America from Europe in 1937. He spent his summers in the Northeast where he developed his love of the outdoors at Camp Norway in Vermont and a lakeside cabin in New Hampshire.
Erik earned BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. In 1972, he moved to Greenville, SC to manage his family’s business, Edda Textile Machines, serving as President, until he retired in 2018.
Erik had passionate interests throughout his life. He was an avid philatelist, loved music across many genres and classic cars.
In 2003, Erik married Lauren Elizabeth Smith of Greenville, SC; she was by his side when he passed away. In addition to Lauren, Erik is survived by his first wife, Gail Sullivan Nagel, and their son, Chad Nagel and granddaughter, Celeste Nagel; his second wife, Cindy Allen Raines; and cherished friends.
A private celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring the memory of Erik B. Nagel may be made to the Greenville Area Parkinson Society. (https://www.gapsonline.org/support-us)
