

Mr. Ashmore was born July 14, 1929, to the late Virgil and Margaret Ashmore. Graduating from Greenville Senior High School in 1945, Maurice went on to Furman University, graduating with a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration in 1949.
He entered into the military service in 1951, serving for four years in the United States Navy. He entered into flight training in 1953 and served in the Korean conflict. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Ashmore became engaged in various civic and charitable services, including flying transplant patients to Nashville, Tennessee and Charleston, South Carolina for treatments. Mr. Ashmore worked closely with the Greater Greenville Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of South Carolina and was awarded the Robert A. Dobson, Jr. Memorial Award. He loved flying his personal airplanes and was always ready to use them for others.
He completed his tour of duty in 1955 and entered the University of South Carolina Law School in 1955. He graduated from law school in 1959 and opened his office for practice in 1960. He served as an Assistant Solicitor for the 13th Judicial Circuit as well as the Assistant County Court Circuit Solicitor in Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Ashmore continued his education and completed his Doctorate of Laws in 1965.
With 54 years of practice, Maurice has been a member of several firms in Greenville, with his last affiliation being the firm of Ashmore, Leaphart, Rabon and Hinds. He held various offices of the Greenville County Bar Association, Downtown Lion’s Club, Korean War Veterans Association, and he was Co- Founder of Christ Rock Camp for Boys, established in 1975 for underprivileged youth.
Mr. Ashmore is predeceased by his parents Virgil L. (Bill) and Margaret Ashmore, his brother, Virgil L. Ashmore, Jr. (Billy), his first wife, Dorothy Cox Ashmore, and his second wife, Lorraine Kraft Groce.
He is survived by his two daughters: Ann Ashmore Jenkinson (Eddie) of Greenville, South Carolina and Margaret Dru Nelson (Charles) of Jacksonville, Florida. His four grandchildren, Cara Elizabeth Jenkinson, Pearce Nelson Parisi, Carter Andrew Nelson, and Blair Elizabeth Nelson, along with four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Mackey Mortuary, 311 Century Drive at 2:00pm with Dr. Jon Roy officiating. A private burial will follow at the Remembrance Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park, in Greenville, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of G. Maurice Ashmore to The American Heart Association.
