Lynn Miller was born on February 9, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri, and recently had an amazing celebration of her 90th birthday with family and friends at Thornblade Country Club. She passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2024.
Lynn was born to Byrl Wayland Munger and Juanita Virginia Hewitt. She graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis, and after graduation worked as an executive secretary at Mallincrodt Chemical. She saved enough money to attend Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri.
While attending college, not only did she play basketball and cheer, but also was in a sorority and worked as an administrative assistant for the Dean. Not knowing it at the time, she met her true love, Charlie. We’re still not sure who chased who…
Before she could drive, she bought a car which she nicknamed ‘Ol' Judge.’ That car took Lynn and a friend out west via route 66. Ol’ Judge broke down in Phoenix, they ran out of money, and ended up working the season at Camelback Inn in Arizona. They continued their adventure by traveling through California and experiencing the beauty of the west coast. After working a season at the A Bar A Ranch in Wyoming, the pair headed home.
On June 24, 1956, Lynn married the love of her life, Charlie, in a garden wedding in St. Louis. This year would have been their 68th wedding anniversary.
While Charlie ran assembly plants for General Motors, Lynn was the CFO and CEO of Miller Family Incorporated. From Missouri to Kansas, Georgia to Texas and onto Ohio, Lynn managed each transition of finding new coaches, new doctors, and new schools with love and dedication for her children. She made each new location feel like home.
Following their desire for a warmer climate, Lynn and Charlie moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1995. They joined Thornblade Country Club where Lynn played tennis and Charlie enjoyed golf. Lynn met many wonderful women while serving as president of the Thornblade Ladies Tennis Association, and made many lasting friendships. They both welcomed the camaraderie beyond measure and enjoyed many fantastic dinners.
Lynn spent many hours in the company of friends and family hunting deer and duck. She especially enjoyed the deep-sea fishing excursions in the Gulf of Mexico. She also cherished sitting on the front porch with her soul mate, Charlie, enjoying their ‘Miller Time.’
Lynn was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents, brother, Brian, sister, Susan, and her granddaughter, Madelynn Reid.
She is blessed to be survived by her large loving family: son Chuck (Stephani) Miller, daughter Kim (Kord) Reid, daughter Debbie (Bruce) Schmitt-Busbey, and daughter Sondra Miller-Trayner. She has 11 grandchildren: Sam, Jake, Luke, and Karley Miller; Charli, Kordell, and Alex Reid (Emrah Kokolic); Jaclyn, Kelsey (Ryan), and Sydney Schmitt; and Kaelin Trayner. She has one great-granddaughter, Clover Jackson (Reid), and one great-grandson, Tate Charles Miller.
