

A proud and dedicated Air Force veteran, Ike served his country with honor and distinction for 28 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT). His military career took him across the globe, allowing him to experience diverse cultures while upholding the values of freedom and service.
Beyond his military achievements, Ike cherished life’s simple joys. He loved spending time with his family, taking scenic drives through the mountains, and enjoying ice cream with his beloved wife, Nydia M. Buckner. He had a passion for the open road, whether riding his motorcycle or cruising in his convertible, savoring the beauty of nature and the freedom of the journey. He was also a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs football fan who never missed a game, cheering for his team with unwavering loyalty. When able, he delighted in brisk walks, listening to online sermons, and sharing laughter over games of dominoes and bingo.
A man of faith and character, Ike found comfort in hymns, often singing “I Come to the Garden Alone” to Nydia. He was also a fan of classic Westerns, especially John Wayne films, and proudly lived by the motto, “I did it my way.”
Ike was preceded in death by his first wife, Berta Odetta Buckner, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Their life together brought him deep joy, enduring love, and three children.
Ike is survived by his sister Penelope Buckner, brother Robbin Buckner with sister-in-law Linda Buckner, his loving wife, Nydia M. Buckner, and his children. From his first marriage; Gregory L. Buckner (3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren), Gary L. Buckner (4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren), Danielle Brewer (4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren) and from his marriage to Nydia; Miguel Ramirez (5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren), Amy Ramirez (3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren), Arlene Bermudez (4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild), and Abby Cuencas (2 grandchildren).
He was blessed with a large and loving family who brought him immense joy and pride. His legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering devotion to family and country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC 29609. Burial will be in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Dr, Anderson, SC 29621 at 2:00 pm with full military honors.
