She was born in Walhalla, SC to Cecil and Emmie Yarborough. After graduating from Walhalla High School, where she excelled in basketball, she went on to marry her husband of 70 years, Dr. Thomas Everett Barton who predeceased her in death in 2020. She was also predeceased by her sister, Fran “Sook” Yarborough and her brother, William "Bill' Yarborough. She was raised in the Baptist faith. She enjoyed working in her yard, playing tennis and walking. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed making a wonderful home for her family.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her four children; Mike Barton (Donna), Ann Davenport (Ellis), Dawn Brown (Charlie), and Melita Graham (Biff); four grandchildren Ashley, Brantley, Ellise and Jeb and two great grandchildren Ethan and Emmy.
The family wishes to express its love and gratitude to her long time caregiver, Renee Jenkins Wellmaker, who became our family. And, also to the many other caregivers who took such loving care of our mother.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609. Private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Rd, Greenville, SC 29607.
