There are many days in the year that Jeff is on my mind.  There are so many memories, videos and pictures that I see often that keep him alive for me.  This one is from 10/6/12 at Furman University.

I had the honor of competing against Jeff in Jiu Jistu last August 2020. 

I was recently having a conversation about how he was such a tough opponent, and
when I went to google a picture to show my friend who Jeff was, I found this link and saw what had happened in December. 

To my knowledge I was Jeff's last competition match and I feel honored to have shared the mat with him. He was the toughest opponent I have ever faced and left everything on the mat. He embodied the heart of a warrior and had the qualities that few men these days posess. It is apparent that Jeff was passionate, disciplined, and dedicated to becoming the best version of himself, so that he could change the lives of those around him. 

I wish I would have the opportunity to know Jeff on a personal level and had the chance to roll on the mats with him one more time. It seems like he was loved by so many in the Greenville area.

When I think of Jeff I am reminded of this verse in the book of Psalms.

Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge.

Rest in strength 



Jeff was my trainer at Anytime for years. I saw him nearly every day. He pushed me physically harder than I ever knew I could train. He only trained me one day a week, but he made sure if I put in the effort to get to the gym everyday, that he would make me a workout to do every day. He was the best accountability partner. He was such a great friend and encourager. I will never forget my memories of him. I pray for your family through this time, that the Lord would give you peace and that the grief would become easier to bear. I am grieving with you.

Jeff was a good person who was passionate about the things he cared about. I feel I learned something new every time I spoke with Jeff. Although it has been a few years since I frequently spent time with him, I remember our interactions like they happened yesterday.  Helping others was something that I could tell meant a lot to Jeff. I will never forget the nights we closed the bar together, the workouts every day in the summer, talking about cars, girls, finances, music, college, etc. I’m truly heartbroken to see such a great human being go too soon. I have to fit a “yuh” in here somewhere... rest easy friend. You will be missed.

He was a big part of our lifting community. He was a coach, an athlete and a State level referee. He bought so much excitement on meet day and made so many smile. We will miss our dear friend. Our deepest condolences go out to Jeff’s family.

A True Friend,

It has been said that true friendship comes when two people say to each other, “What? You like that too? I thought I was the only one!” When Jeff and I were barely teenagers, we had the “What? You too?” moment  when we realised that each of us liked lifting weighs. He had a smith machine, I had a power cage, and our friendship was born. 

It wasn’t long before he was bigger and stronger, even though he was several years younger. He is the strongest guy I know, but he is also one of the funniest guys I know. He was one of my best friends in high school and college, and he will be missed.

Dear Jim and Susie,
Mom Diachenko told us about your dear Jeff's death. We're so sorry that you have to go through this! We haven't been through this particular trial but have experienced some other difficult trials, and we can with confidence say that God's grace is real and will sustain you!
