He served in the Marine Corps and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. After a long career as a mechanical engineer, he enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and spending time with his animals. He was a Mason and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Hawkins Nelson; his children Leslie Nelson, Jerry Lloyd Nelson, Jr (Andrea), Paige Nelson, Mark Nelson (Grace), Heidi Nelson Bramlett (Matthew). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother Joe Nelson and sister Millie Nelson Grant.
