

Lawrence Michael Burnette – primarily known as Mike 76, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. He proudly served as a United States Marine for 12 years and as a Sikorsky Helicopter contractor.
Mr. Burnette was honorably discharged as a Gunnery Sergeant with a primary specialty was as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic and secondary as a Human Relations Instructor. He served 12 years and 11 months and earned several accolades throughout his service. Burnette served 2 terms in Vietnam and Desert Storm where he was awarded the following: Air Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, a Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Hast for exceptional leadership, Combat Aircrew Insignia with 2 stars for successfully completing multiple combat missions, and additional Air Medal with Bronze Star.
After retiring from the military, Burnette dedicated himself to his wife, Michael Earl Burnette and his daughter Kimberly Anne Burnette, and continued his love for Aircraft. He continued working on Sikorsky Helicopters and was given the opportunity to live overseas in England and Sicily. He is predeceased by his parents, Muriel and George Burnette, His Wife of 40 years, Michael Anders Burnette, and Daughter, Kimberly Anne Libby. He is survived by his Granddaughter, Kellany Moore(James Sellars), and three Great Grandchildren, Lucas (7), Emma (6) and Jameson (4), Grandson, Cole Libby, his sister, Kimlynn Durell, his niece, Kelley Durell, and nephew Jace (2) and niece, Kaia, who was just born on February 15th, as well as many chosen family and friends.
Mike was known by his family and friends as a man who would truly give the shift off his back for anyone in need. He was selfless, compassionate, and overall a good, genuine man. He would describe himself as a grump but those who knew him, knew it was not true. Mike’s legacy of courage, honor, and selflessness will forever be remembered. He touched the lives of many with his unwavering loyalty and strength, always putting others before himself.
A Memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Chapel in Greenville at 3pm with military honors. All who knew and loved Mike are welcome to pay their respects.
Mike, also known as Granddaddy to his grandchildren or GG to his great grandchildren, will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a true Marine, a loving husband, and a devoted father. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends
