Lillie was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 24, 1921 to the late Garfield Strange and Della Mae Fowler Strange.
After graduating Sterling High School, she married Charles Abercrombie, and their loving relationship endured for over sixty years, until his passing in 1999. Lillie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her devotion extended to everyone she met. As a mother, she was also very involved in the Gower Street Elementary and Sterling High School Parent Teacher Associations. Also, she was a member of the Nicholtown Association, which was instrumental in acquiring Nicholtown Elementary School. She was a devoted member of the Baha’i Faith, an independent world religion that embraces the oneness of humanity.
Surviving are her sons, Charles Clinton Abercrombie, Jr., John Melvin Abercrombie, James Richard Abercrombie, Sherryfield Abercrombie, and Phillip London Abercrombie; daughters, Della Elizabeth Abercrombie and Beverly Elaine Abercrombie; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; niece, Deborah Robinson; nephew, John Mangum, Jr.; and a host of cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by a son, Harold Douglas Abercrombie; grandsons, Sherryfield Abercrombie, Jr. and Yogi Ferdi Settles; and sister, Martha Mangum.
Funeral service 10 a.m. March 29, 2016 in the chapel of Mackey Mortuary with burial following in the Laurel Creek Methodist Church Cemetery.
