Lincoln Reece Sams, Jr, 81, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away at his home in Simpsonville, SC on June 24, 2024, after a nine-year battle with Lewy-Body dementia.

Reece was born in Elizabethton, TN and moved with his family at an early age to Tuscaloosa, AL before joining the US Navy, where he served in Naples, Italy from 1963 to 1967. After an honorable discharge in which he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, he moved to Atlanta and later Duluth, GA where he worked for the Georgia Department of Labor. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln Reece Sams and Betty Powell Sams. Reece is survived by his wife, Glenda LaGrone Sams, as well as his daughter, Stacey Hogue, son-in-law, Nathan Hogue, and grandson, Kellan Reece Hogue. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Sams, sister-in-law, Johnnie Sams, and nieces, Laurie Sams and Lisa Sams.

Reece was a man of curiosity and many hobbies, including taking care of the rose garden at the Buford Church of Christ, where he worshipped for many years. A gifted artist, he also had an extensive antique pen collection, a pastime he shared with his grandson, Kellan, and they were both active members of the Atlanta Pen Club.

A small memorial service will be held in the home of Nathan and Stacey Hogue on Saturday, July 6th at 2:00 pm.

In remembrance of Reece’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Lewy-Body Dementia Association at https://www.lbda.org/honor-your-loved-one/
