Born in Spartanburg, S.C. she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Marie Brooks. She is predeceased by her husband Sid of 58 years. She is survived by her two daughters Elizabeth Weaver (Billy) of Rock Hill and Marianne Childers (Greg) of Greenville. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren Matthew Weaver (Erin), Reagan and Brooklyn of Rock Hill, Lindsay Weaver of Charlotte, Delaney Childers and Cameron Childers of Greenville. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Christopher Paine of Asheville.
She was a graduate of Greenville High School. She attended Queens College and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
She taught school in Cayce, SC, Rome, GA, South Bend, IN, Anderson, SC and retired from Greenville County School District. A 34 year veteran, she capped her career with 24 years as the librarian at Taylors Elementary School.
Marie was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church where she was an active member since 1972. There she served as head of numerous committees as well as being a Sunday School Teacher, Junior Warden of the Vestry, President of the Episcopal Church Women, and delegate to various diocesan conventions and meetings. She was a member of the Junior League of Greenville and the Symphony Guild of Greenville, Harbour Club and Pebble Creek Country Club. She and Sid enjoyed traveling and were fortunate enough to visit all 7 continents together. She was a devout Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother, superlative teacher, and compassionate friend to many.
A service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 301 Piney Mountain Road, on June 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church.
