

A chemical engineer with a Masters in Textile Engineering, Mark enjoyed working in the non-woven textile industry; most recently as project manager for Ahlstrom, headquartered in Finland. Spending time with his beloved family and good friends was his source of true joy. Mark had a love of bike riding, running and swimming, competing in a number of races around the country, Escape from Alcatraz, Assault on Mount Mitchell, Grand Father Mountain Marathon, and Paris Mountain Road Race being among his noteworthy achievements. Hiking and gardening were pursuits that kept him close to the great outdoors for which he had a tremendous love. His enjoyment of literature, art, and theatre involved him in his community and fostered his innate creative talent.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Allison; sons, Richard and Matthew of Greenville; mother, Marion Berman of Charlotte, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Clive and Helen Berman of Charlotte, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and John Griffith of Toronto, Canada; nieces, nephews; numerous cousins and very dear friends scattered across the globe. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Archie Berman.
Visitation will be held at Mackey Mortuary, Greenville on Thursday, July 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in Charlotte, NC at 4407 Oglukian Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
