Our beautiful Nancy Floyd Turner passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Greenville, S.C. from Metastatic Breast Cancer, a disease she fought bravely most of her life. Nancy was born in Greenwood, S.C., the daughter of legendary basketball player Darrell Floyd and Kay Floyd Foster. She moved to Greenville, S.C., with her family at the age of nine and resided there for most of her life.
An extraordinary athlete, Nancy followed in her father’s footsteps and became a basketball standout at J.L. Mann High School. She broke many school and state records for scoring and received several basketball honors such as All-State, All-Conference, Most Valuable Conference Player and played on the All-Tournament team two years in a row. She was also selected as a high school All-American and received a full basketball scholarship to Winthrop College, where she played before transferring to The University of South Carolina. Nancy also excelled in tennis in high school and was ranked number one in the State of S.C. where she won several state championships.
Nancy majored in business and marketing at The University of South Carolina and was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority where she met so many lifelong friends. Nancy was so thankful and blessed for those lasting friendships and was known as “Dooba” to close friends. Upon graduation, she began her career at Riegel Textiles Corporation and traveled the southeast as a Regional Sales Manager living in Augusta, Georgia and then Atlanta. At the age of twenty-nine, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer and decided to make it her life’s mission to help other breast cancer patients live better lives. She put her entrepreneurial skills to work and founded Turner Healthcare Products, Inc. where she invented and patented The Marsupial Pouch, a post-surgical product used to ease the recovery process for patients going through surgery.
A creative soul, Nancy loved music, decorating, fashion, painting, watching game shows, HGTV, and sports. With a sharp sense of humor, and a heart of gold, Nancy always put others first. She lived her life to the fullest, with bravery and courage, defying the odds, fighting hard until the very end, doing things her way, quietly, with dignity and grace. But most of all, Nancy treasured her family and friends. She was a beloved daughter and sister, a loyal friend, and a loving mother to her two children, Meredith and Luke. Nancy was so proud of the incredible people that they had both become. She was also a doting grandmother to her grandson, Orion, who loved his Fancy Nancy and was a special godmother and aunt to Jarrett & Katie Bell and Emma Carroll. Although there is a huge void left in our lives, Nancy will always remain forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish Nancy’s memory are her mother, Kay Floyd Foster, her devoted children, Meredith and Luke Turner, her grandson Orion, all of Greenville, her sisters, Diane Grable (Bruce and stepson Tyler) of Pawleys Island, her dedicated nephew, John Odom (Lindsay Siddens), of Greenville, and Libby Floyd (Tony) of Marina Del Rey, CA. Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Darrell Floyd, legendary basketball player and All-American at Furman University.
The family also wishes to thank Nancy’s loyal Friends for Life who offered so much support throughout her journey. They are: Patty King Matthews, Pam Bell, Lisa Collins Hood, Vicky McCullough Carroll, Marybeth King, Julie Carithers, Margaret Denny, her S.C. Fan Girls group, and many more. A private service will be held at 1p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at The Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park, followed by a public Celebration of Nancy’s Life at The Champion’s Club at Fluor Field from 4-8 p.m. To help us continue Nancy’s legacy, please donate to gofund.me/e1d454e3. The proceeds will go towards providing The Marsupial Pouch to patients in need of an easier recovery period. Other contributions can be made to the Cancer Survivors Park Alliance or a charity of your choice.
