She was born Patricia Irene Riddle in Greenville, SC, on 14 August 1941, the only child of Louis Franklin Riddle and Myrtle Irene Trammell Riddle.
On 2 June 1973, Pat married the love of her life, Myron Gordon Howle, M.D. Pat and Gordon had a long and happy marriage of 30 years until Gordon’s death in 2003.
Greenville was Pat’s home all her life, but she loved nothing better than packing her bags and exploring new places. She and Gordon traveled extensively all over the world. Even though Pat never had any children, she was blessed with a large family of cousins, especially a few in Greenville who supported and cared for her during her final years. She was loved by many, and her beautiful face and vibrant personality will be missed.
Always a musician in her heart, Pat had a beautiful singing voice and was a regular soloist with the choir at her church, First Baptist Greenville. For many years, she was active with several local and national music/choral organizations, including the Greenville Chorale, the Music Club of Greenville, the Crescent Music Club, the National and South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs, and others. Up until Pat died, she was a faithful supporter of the Carolina Youth Symphony and the opportunities it provides for young musicians.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation in memory of Patricia Howle to the Carolina Youth Symphony - at P.O. Box 534, Greenville, SC, 29602 - would be a wonderful way to pay tribute to Pat.
Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park is handling arrangements for Pat’s cremation. There is no visitation scheduled. A private interment service for the family will be scheduled later in the spring.
