Born October 20, 1940, to Jeanette and Luke Fulmer, Pat embodied a life of dedicated service to her family, friends, and community.
Pat was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted musician, playing percussion, piano, and organ. She was a seamstress and a crocheter, a chef and a baker, a teacher and a nurse. Her curiosity and ambition were boundless and, above all else, rooted firmly in her deep and steady faith. She shared her musical gifts at St. Francis Episcopal Church, where she also taught Sunday school and volunteered with the church’s Little Church program for children. She used her needleworking skills to donate bonnets to newborns and blankets to cancer patients at local hospitals.
Pat met the love of her life, John Campbell Ligon, on a blind date set up by her nursing colleagues. During this time, she also became a businesswoman, harnessing her entrepreneurial spirit to open Patricia’s Bridal Boutique. However, it was through her marriage to John that Pat found her greatest calling: being a mother.
Her proudest accomplishment was raising her three daughters, Robin, Julie, and Sandy. Whether sewing gowns for prom or making the best Kool-Aid in the Upstate, Pat’s dedication to her girls never wavered. As her daughters grew up and started families of their own, the reach of Pat’s love expanded, touching each new generation in turn.
Pat was a sister, a mother, and a grandmother to all those she met. Known as Grandma Pat—and to her grandchildren as Patty Wacky or G-Pat—she’d swindle you in a game of gin rummy, then make it up to you afterward with a home-cooked dinner and dessert. She loved the ocean, gardening, and traveling, but above all else, she loved to laugh. Her wit and sense of humor were with her always.
Grandma Pat is survived by her daughters Robin [Travis] Ligon, Julie [Gil] Ligon-Faulk, and Sandy [Scotty] Halkett; her grandchildren Amanda, Austin [Carolyne], Campbell, Donovan, Gabriel, Hunter [Lindsay], and Luke [fiancée Molly]; her cousins Evon Zuppa, Bill Nadolna, Dianne Drake, and Tommy Brantley; and her sister-cousin Carolyn Brantley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C. Ligon.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Grandma Pat’s doctors, nurses, and health care workers for their unwavering commitment to her care and quality of life. They would also like to thank Sister Fergie of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd for the spiritual guidance she provided to Grandma Pat and her family.
Memorial services for Grandma Pat will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive Greenville, South Carolina 29609. Friends and family are invited for fellowship at 9:00 a.m. followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Grandma Pat may be made to Adaptive Pickleball or the Alzheimer’s Association. Links to these organizations can be found below.
