

Terrence (Terry) Allen Bethel, 72, of Simpsonville, loving and devoted husband of Susan (Sue) Bethel departed his earthly life on Thursday, January 26, 2012 after a courageous fight with cancer. Terry was born in Collinsville, Illinois. He was known for his outgoing personality, love for family and friends, and gourmet cooking. He retired after many years in the field of medical sales. Terry was noted for his exceptionally high basketball ability earning state honors. He was a member of the first team of all American basketball players and was recognized in Parade Magazine as a member of the All American team in 1957. He was an initial inductee into the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame and continues to hold state records. He was a proud Army ranger serving in the 101st Airborne Division for two tours in Vietnam. He received two Army Commendation Medals for his exceptional meritorious service. In addition to his wife of 31 years, he is survived by 2 daughters of Illinois: Tammy Anderson and her husband Scott in Collinsville and Bambi Bethel in Highland and three grandchildren: Bailey, Chase, and Evan. He was predeceased by his mother Mary, his father, and his sister Robin Murphy. A memorial graveside service will be held at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans cemetery in Anderson, SC at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 17, 2012. The family would especially like to thank healthcare team at Cancer Center of the Carolinas, Dr. Suzanne Fanning and Concetta Gardziola, the healthcare team at Greenville Hospital System and NHC Mauldin for their loving care throughout his illness.
