

Born in Atlanta, GA, Gene was a son of the late Daniel Hungerford Coggin, Sr. and Imogene Kincannon Coggin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and graduated from Southern Technical Institute. Gene worked for 40 years in the apparel industry, including time at Piedmont Industries and FGP International. He was an elder at John Knox Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Hungerford Coggin, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy Williams Coggin; 4 children, Pam Myers (Steve), Fred Lassiter (Annette), Deana Talbert, and Mike Coggin (Tanya); 11 grandchildren, Kendra, Anya, Justin, Kevin, Daniel, Bryan, Mathias, Thadeus, Eric, Madison, and Nathan; 7 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Tanner, Abriana, Adelyn, Harper, Hudson, and Lucas; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Jace.
A graveside service will be held at 10am Thursday, September 8, 2016 in the Remembrance Mausoleum Chapel in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
A memorial service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 10am Friday, September 9, 2016 at John Knox Presbyterian Church with Dr. Gordon Turnbull, Rev. Justin Cazel, and Rev. David Howell officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church or to the Cancer Society of Greenville County.
The family would like to thank their loved ones and friends, including Gene’s caregivers, Rolling Green Village, Open Arms Hospice, McCall Hospice House, and the John Knox family for their love and support.
