

Angelo R. Muto, 88 of Rye Brook, NY, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014, after a brief illness. Angelo was born on October 18, 1926, in Butler, (suburb of Pittsburgh, PA) to Samuel and Florence Barone Muto. The son of Italian immigrants, he became most successful in his life and career, being a caring, devoted, religious, and generous man to not only all his family, but everyone to whose life he touched in any way. Angelo will be deeply missed in many ways by his ever loving family, friends and all those lives he's touched through his years. He exemplified the meaning of charity and love, not only in his personal life, but in his musical business career. His warm smile and congenial personality were always a comfort to anyone he met. He was honored to receive numerous awards throughout his life, which included the Ferrinian Italian American of the Year in 1989 by the Brooklyn Diocese, and also the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary ClubHe was currently a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT, and previously a long-time member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Ozone, Park, NY, where he was always a very active member. He was a member of various community associations in Ozone Park, and more recently in Rye Brook, which include the Port Chester Kiwanis, and the local VFW, as well as others. In his later years he brightened the lives of many that he entertained in senior centers, assisted living, and nursing facilities, as well as many other personal and community engagements. Angelo grew up in Pennsylvania and after graduation from high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Philippiines during World War II. At the age of 10 he began taking accordion lessons. Little did he realize this would become his lifelong career and love which he continued until the time of his death. In 1947, he moved to Ozone Park, NY to study music in New York City where he became a very accomplished accordionist/musical entertainer, and lived for many years there. He opened his own accordion school, The Modern Accordion Center, in Ozone Park. the past recent almost 14 years he lived in Rye Brook.On June 27, 1953, he married his loving, devoted wife, Norma DiGiacomo, and their marriage was blessed with three children,Gary (Caren) Muto, of Greenwich, CT; Maria (Jack) Wurpel, of Larchmont, NY; and his oldest son, Robert, who predeceased him in 2013. Angelo is also survived by three sisters, Louise (John) Olenic; Josephine(late Richard) Gall; and Frances (William) Draper; and one brother, Samuel, all of Butler, PA. He is also survived by three grandsons, Robert Muto, Brandon Muto, Gregory Wurpel three granddaughters Carla (John) Wong, Jordan Muto and Jessica Wurpel and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Wong and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also proceeded in death by his sister, Betty Muto, and his brother, Robert Muto. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, December 5, 2014, between the hours of 1pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9:00pm at the Leo F. Gallagher Funeral Home 31 Arch street Greenwich, Connecticut, Mass and celebration of his wonderful life will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 10:45 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park NY. He will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery Middle, Village NY
